It's time for a necessary home repair. Problems such as foundation issues, sinking concrete, sump pump failures—you name it!—can sneak up on us.

Heck, even if you’ve known for a while that an expense was coming, why pay more than you have to? The best thing you can do is be informed.

Fix It Early

It goes without saying: The smaller the issue, the easier the fix and, consequently, the lower the cost. The crack under your egress window can be quickly diagnosed and repaired. But add some rain to the picture, and the crack opens up, water flows into your basement and you’ve suddenly multiplied your expenses—and maybe even wrecked something priceless in the process.

Think of it like your car. It’s less expensive to change the oil regularly than replace your engine, right? The same thing goes for home maintenance. Unfortunately, your home doesn’t come with a check-engine light. But think of a sticking window, sloping floor or wall crack as a sign there is a problem.

Your home won’t repair itself. However, we can tell you that the sooner you diagnose and repair a problem, the easier it will be on your bank account in the long run.

Be Ready to Make a Decision

Often, contracting businesses take a no-haggle approach with homeowners. But in the absence of negotiating, they do offer discounts.

Some businesses offer same-day savings, because it helps them run more efficiently. That’s because if you wait to make your decision, another inspection may be needed. Which means sending out another person, using more gas, putting additional miles on a company car, etc.

If a company offers same-day savings, you should seriously consider it. Every day, homeowners miss out on 5% off a project that’s $10,000 or more simply because they weren’t ready to make a decision. By the way, 5% of $10,000 is $500. Not a small amount of money to anyone.

Pay Attention to Financing Options

In addition to paying cash, there are other ways to finance a home-repair project, including personal loans, home equity loans or lines of credit or using a credit card.

Sometimes interest rates are low, which helps keep the total cost of borrowing down. But other factors to consider include how low you’d like your monthly payments to be and how long you want to carry the debt.

Also, it’s a good idea to ask the contractor if there is a benefit to financing with them directly, such as paying no interest for a certain period of time or receiving a discount on the total cost of the project.

Only Fix It Once

There’s only one way to make sure you don’t need to fix an issue again, and that’s getting it done right the first time. Yes, we know this seems obvious, but hear us out. Google “bad contractor,” then immerse yourself in the hundreds of stories about the homeowners who were “taken advantage of” and “never thought it would happen” to them. Unfortunately, there are bad actors in the home repair industry. Sometimes, it’s intentional. Other times, it’s a well-meaning effort, but they simply didn’t know what they were doing.

The solution? Pick the business that you know will do it right the first time. Not the cheapest. Not the fastest. Pick the one who will stand behind their work.

Lastly, hire a specialist for the type of repair you need instead of a general contractor or handyman. Read reviews. See how the company interacts with its customers online. Ask how long they’ve been in business, what training they’ve completed and how many homes they’ve fixed. And always ask about the warranty and what happens to it if they go out of business.

As you can see, by following a few simple rules, you can make sure you not only get your home fixed right, but you can sleep well knowing you’ve actually saved money in the long run.

Is PolyLevel Environmentally Friendly?

We’ve all seen PolyLevel videos on YouTube: heavy sunken concrete driveway slabs moving back up to their original position as if lifted by some supernatural force. It’s fun and fascinating to watch.

So, what’s the catch? Is it expensive? No, not particularly. Is it rare? Actually, we are an exclusive dealer!

Aha! It’s probably bad for the environment, right?

Actually, no.

How PolyLevel Interacts With the Environment

PolyLevel foam is a lightweight, durable and, above all, amazingly strong high-density polyurethane foam. The reason it works so well is, it runs like water when first injected under concrete, finding even the smallest crevices. But then it quickly expands, and the force of that expansion is enough to lift those heavy concrete slabs back to their original positions. And, when PolyLevel cures, it cures basically forever.

High-density polyurethane foams such as PolyLevel have been the subject of several studies over the years, including one conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE), and they’ve found a couple of interesting things:

PolyLevel is a non-ozone depleting two-part polyurethane foam that is chemically inert once it cures. That means, once it sets, it does not react with anything around it, so it won’t leach into the soil or otherwise impart chemicals into the environment.

PolyLevel does not biodegrade. This means it doesn’t break down over time and affect the environment around it. It is also highly resistant to microbial attack due to its chemical and physical structure.

PolyLevel provides no nutritional value, and as such, it is not likely to be broken down by animals or insects.

While polyurethanes can degrade over time when exposed to UV radiation, because PolyLevel is never exposed to sunlight, this is not an issue.

Basically, once it cures, PolyLevel is no different, from an environmental point of view, than the concrete it stabilizes.

PolyLevel Helps Reduce Waste and Pollution

One of the best things about PolyLevel, though, is that it helps keep tons of concrete out of our landfills — literally. Think about it; if your driveway is cracked and sunken, your two main options are to repair or replace it. PolyLevel offers a fantastic solution for the first option. But when you replace a driveway (or any concrete), you not only have to wait a week or more for it to cure, but all that old concrete must be jackhammered into smaller pieces, torn out and hauled off to the local landfill, where it will remain for pretty much the rest of time.

Then there’s the problem of new concrete. Did you know that, after water, concrete is the most consumed material on the planet? And, concrete production is the source of a huge amount of greenhouse gasses, which are a primary driver of climate change. Then there’s the damage to the environment caused by mining the raw materials that make it up.

When you repair your driveway, sidewalk or patio with PolyLevel, you’re not only keeping old, broken concrete out of the landfill, you’re also reducing the need for new concrete to be produced. And that’s a good thing for the entire planet.

In the end, PolyLevel allows you to lift and permanently stabilize your concrete while helping reduce waste and pollution. See? No catch!

Cracks in your walls? Your foundation needs to be looked at.

If you're seeing cracks in your walls, the wall separating from the floor or ceiling, or maybe you're concerned that your walls seem to be bowing or caving in - chances are you have a foundation problem.
There are many reasons why a home's foundation may be experiencing issues. A contractor trained specifically in foundation repair will be the best option for homeowners looking for answers.
A skilled contractor will look for and diagnose foundation problems based on symptoms they spot and some technical inspection, as well. Two things they should look for are horizontal movement and vertical movement.

Make no mistake, if you’re experiencing an issue with your home’s crawlspace, that means you have a problem with the foundation your home is built on. Unfortunately, homeowners wait an average of 5 years (or longer!) to get their foundation inspected.

But, the longer you wait, the more expensive the fix will likely become. Here are five signs you need a trained foundation repair company to take a look at your crawlspace.

Your floors are bouncing.

When you walk across the room, does the floor seem to jiggle or bounce under the weight? There are a few potential reasons for this, including sinking crawlspace supports. This issue is caused when the soil under a home is not strong enough to bear the weight of the supports – and the rest of your house along with it.

Sinking crawlspace supports can be repaired by replacing the supports with steel columns that transfer the weight of your home from weak soil to strata that is able to bear the load.

2. There’s a slope or sag in the middle of your floors.

Similar to bouncing floors, if you notice your floors sloping or sagging, that could be an indication that your crawlspace supports need to be checked out by a trained professional.

Sagging floors are another symptom of sinking crawlspace supports. However, it could also mean the supports were placed too far apart when the home was built and more support is needed.

3. Something smells.

Yes, you’re reading this correctly. If you’re noticing an odor, it could be coming from your crawlspace – and this could mean that wooden support beams are rotting away.

If rot has already started, replacing the supports with steel beams will be the best way to ensure the problem doesn’t persist.

4. Your doors are sticking or jamming.

You might think a door that is jamming has an issue with its hinges or the handle. But jamming or sticking doors are actually a symptom of foundation issues.

Sticking doors can be caused by settlement in your crawlspace. A foundation repair company can stabilize your foundation.

5. You notice cracks in interior drywall.

Drywall cracks could look like the paint is the problem. However, if it’s coming out of the corners of door frames or other telltale places, it could indicate your crawlspace is in need of repair.

If you’re experiencing one or more of the reasons above, it’s time to call someone out to inspect your crawlspace. We recommend going with a trained and reputable foundation repair company for peace of mind that the issue will be fixed in a professional manner.

Book your free, no-obligation home inspection today.

Your chimney can sometimes feel like an accessory to the outside of your home. However, the chimney is very much a part of the structure of the home and problems with the chimney can indicate larger foundation issues at play.

Leaning or separating chimneys pose the biggest concern. A homeowner who can see the chimney lean away from the structure of the home should contact a foundation repair contractor right away. Besides brick or other siding falling off the chimney, it could also mean pests or water could make its way in between the gap. Most concerning, it could mean combustible gasses are leaking in through cracks through the lining.

Often times, the soil around your home can cause the chimney and foundation issues, namely settlement. Sometimes chimneys are built on a foundation that is not connected to the rest of the home, making it even more at risk of settlement.

Solutions to keeping your chimney upright and aligned with your home can include piers, braces, and hydraulic jacks. These products should only be installed by a trained contractor.

Working with a contractor who specializes in foundation repair will ensure you are getting a thorough inspection of your home and the best solution. Reach out to schedule your free home inspection today.

Whether you’ve just noticed a crack in your wall for the first time, or you’ve slowly seen it grow from an inch to several, there are a few things that hold true about foundation repair. Foundation issues don’t get better with time, but many people wait an average of five years before they call on a specialist to look at the problem.

Here are three reasons why waiting to get your foundation fixed is a bad idea.

1. The problem will get more expensive.

Often times, when someone notices a foundation issue, it’s usually something that started small and grew over time. This could be a crack in a poured concrete basement wall, or perhaps your noticing a gap between the floorboards and the wall.

As the problem continues, it will take more effort and resources to bring the foundation back to its most stable condition. Also, the more a foundation falls into disrepair, the most other issues around the home will crop up. These include sticking doors and windows, or even issues with the roof.

2. The issue may become a major safety concern.

Next, the safety and stability of a home’s foundation can be compromised the longer a homeowner waits to repair it. Bowing walls are a sign the foundation could cave in – and they often do.

Additionally, foundation issues can affect the floors on the levels above the basement, slab or crawlspace. The flooring could become uneven or bouncy, making it less safe.

3. Your property value may decrease.

A new homeowner would assume any responsibility for the home’s foundation. If a foundation issue was flagged during the home inspection, it could indicate a major expense soon.

The good news is a repaired foundation is not a red flag for a potential buyer. In fact, there are even instances where a repaired foundation is more stable and stronger than the original construction.

In conclusion, homeowners balance a lot of different decisions and priorities when it comes to their homes. This can lead to inaction when they notice a concerning crack in a poured wall, bouncing floors that make it easy to lose balance, or floors separating from the wall.

However, fixing a foundation should remain top-of-mind. While the price and inconvenience of a home project might be uncomfortable in the short term, it will restore property value, ensure a safe living space, and – ultimately – result in peace of mind for the homeowner.

As we settle into a new season, there are new weather patterns that can impact the soil – and subsequently our home’s foundation!

The winter months can bring bouts of heavy moisture with rain, sleet or snow. This moisture can cause pressure on your foundation and lead to serious symptoms of problems.

Cracked, leaning or bowing basement walls can develop in homes of any age, as changes occur within the soils that surround them.

Foundation walls can be damaged by soil pressure. In some cases, the soil's weight is simply too great to be held back by the foundation wall. In other cases, soil with high clay content expands during wet weather, exerting additional pressure against foundation walls. This is a problem that we in Nevada deal with the most. Our clay expansive soils expand and receed constantly, creating a constant pressure and movement against our homes' foundations.

Additionally, in areas with cold winter climates, frost can put pressure on a wall and cause it to fail, especially if the basement is unheated. Frost forces can be extremely powerful and can even lift shallow foundations up out of the ground, causing significant damage to the home.

The foundation problems caused by the time of year aren't just annoying - they become much worse over time. Finding and fixing the root cause of the problem will restore your peace of mind. Call us for a free estimate today!

If you have a home, chances are you have a driveway. (Okay, we really didn’t work too hard on that one, keep reading).

Driveways in our region can often become cracked and sunken. This is a result of the soil underneath those concrete driveway slabs.

As the soil softens during rain or moisture, the weight of the concrete could cause the slab to sink. When the soil dries out, it shrinks and might not be able to support the concrete slab. Finally, sometimes the way the homebuilder compacted the soil in the first place might cause it to easily wash away – leaving an empty void under the concrete.

All of these issues can be solved by our company injecting an environmentally safe foam called PolyLevel under the concrete to help support it and bring it level with the rest of your driveway.

There are other processes that purport to raise and fix your concrete slabs, like mudjacking, but that will leave large holes in your driveway from drilling and isn’t a permanent solution.

We get it, its not everyday you try to decide how you’re going to fix your concrete driveway. You might be tempted to just rip the driveway out and repour it altogether. This is a costly option and inconvenient.

When you pour new concrete, it will take several days for the concrete to cure. This means you can’t use your driveway during that time. Instead of parking in your garage, you’ll be forced to park in the street or on your lawn, depending on what’s available to you.

If you want a less expensive and more sustainable option for your driveway, injecting PolyLevel under your driveway by professionals is the best bet. The foam quickly raises the concrete and hardens, meaning you can drive a vehicle on your driveway within 30 minutes.

Read our company’s online reviews or give us a call to find our more about lifting and leveling your concrete driveway.

How to Save Money on Major Home Repairs
It’s time for a necessary home repair. Problems such as foundation issues, sinking concrete, sump pump failures—you name it!—can sneak up on us.

How to Save Money on Major Home Repairs

It’s time for a necessary home repair. Problems such as foundation issues, sinking concrete, sump pump failures—you name it!—can sneak up on us.

Our goal is to give you an experience with a contractor that is so positive you want to rave about it online.

After each job is completed, we make a concerted effort to ask you for a review. There’s a reason for this: online reviews have become essential to small businesses.

Not only can an online review from a customer help us show up sooner in searches, but it can also give another customer insight into what it’s like to do business with us. We train hard to be able to offer incredible service and online reviews help us determine if we are doing our best.

Our reviews are what potential new customers are evaluating us on before they even give us a call – but we can’t leave those reviews ourselves. We need your help in giving us feedback so we can redefine the customer experience and to keep this local company in business.

Here are just a few places we’d love to hear from you:

Contractor Nation

HomeAdvisor

Yelp

We don’t offer discounts or incentives to those who leave us a positive online review because we want our online reviews to be accurate and authentic.

Our goal is to give you an experience with a contractor that is so positive you want to rave about it online.

Q&A with the Owner!

Q&A with Sean Madole

Q. Why did you start this company?

A. I started this company to provide unique services to customers needing their houses fixed. Also, to provide opportunities to our employees to develop themselves and have a good life doing something meaningful. It’s not a boring, day after day mundane thing; it’s a good, fun meaningful job.

Q. What is your favorite part about running this business?

A. *Michelle Madole/ Office Manager shouts from across the hall: “WORKING WITH HIS WIFE!”

A. The best part about this job is getting up everyday and doing a job that actually matters. It’s important on many levels: from our customers standpoint and our standpoint, its really important that we have a meaningful, valid, essential job. That’s what I like about this business.

Q. How many customers have you helped?

A. Probably somewhere around 2,000 customers. We help a lot of people that aren’t even our customers too.

Q. What does Redefine our industry mean to you?

A. Redefine our industry means creating excellent performance and changing the way construction is perceived. We want to make it a better experience for our customers. I think right now, people don’t really have a high expectation and what we want to do it change that and give them a better experience than they ever expected from a contractor.

Q. What is one word to describe your company?

A. OneTeam

Curb Appeal
2020-08-10T00:00:00.05Z

What's happening in your area's real estate market? How might unsightly concrete problems affect the curb appeal of a home you're trying to sell?

There’s no doubt 2020 has been a strange year for careers, families and communities – this includes real estate. Across the country, inventory was at historic lows over the spring and summer months as COVID-19 left many people uncertain about their future.

But, for those looking to sell, doing so during a period of low inventory could be a good thing. Real estate prices are classic supply and demand economics. Even if people aren’t willing to spend as much on a house, lower demand means they have far less choices in homes.

Regardless of what’s happening in the real estate market, homes with curb appeal tend to sell for more money than those that have none. Curb appeal is one of many factors’ homeowners consider when buying a home – but for some, it’s the most important.

In addition to nice, clean siding, and tidy landscaping, the concrete around your house affects the overall curb appeal. Cracked concrete can look concerning to the home’s potential new buyers. Concrete that’s sunken or uneven is a safety concern.

If you’re thinking of putting your home on the marketing but are concerned about curb appeal, the good news is most of the time, the concrete can be repaired and restored without the downtime of re-pouring new concrete. Choosing the right contractor can help keep your costs low, while ensuring your project is completed on time. Also, asking the contracting company about available financing options can help keep projects affordable in times of uncertainty.

Whether you’re looking to get your home on the market this fall or plan to stay in it for several more years, repairing the concrete around your home will only help with its curb appeal.

Madole Construction

The poly level process was chosen to raise the areas of subsidence and fill the voids under the slab. A five by five (5 x5) grid was used to inject the polyurethane foam beneath the slab. This void fill process effectively seals the slab to ground interface reducing the direct path of draining chemicals to the ground and ground water. The void fill also increased the ground support for the slab and the large forklifts, reducing the flexure of the slab and resulting cracks and deterioration.

This process was completed in just 4 days reducing the impact to business and production schedule adding additional value to the project.

Customer had two (2) large concrete slabs used to drain and dry pressure treated poles for utility construction. These slabs exhibited three (3) areas of subsidence. The chemical containment requirements for this plant includes controlling drainage, and infiltration into the ground water.
